Large-scale sea surface temperature gradients govern westerly moisture transport in western Ecuador during the Plio-Pleistocene
This study reconstruct past atmospheric circulation in the eastern equatorial tropical Pacific using leaf wax biomarkers from ODP1239 and reveals that westerly winds in this region were weaker during the Pliocene, a geologic epoch with simimlar CO$_2$ concentrations to today.
